Drywalling a custom home build

The stage of drywall is a major milestone in the process as you are "closing up" walls and getting ready for the down hill.

When drywalling or sheet rocking the process is pretty straight forward. Sheets of drywall or also known as gypsum board are delivered to your site. They are then cut to size and tacked up with nails followed by being secured with drywall screws.

All cut outs are also made for rough-ins such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC placements.

Note: screws are a vital aspect to the process to maintain quality and avoid nail popping over time.

Fun fact - Sheetrock the popular term is actually a brand of drywall / gypsum board sheets.

One decision that will need to be made for the drywall process is if you want Rounded or Squared corners.

It is also important for quality control to assure you have moisture resistant drywall or cement board in the showers.

The sequence on the drywall process when building your custom home in Texas on your lot is:

Drywall - Tape & Float - Texture

All aspects needing their full punch list before moving onto the next.

Build on your lot custom home foundation in St. Hedwig, TX

Photos of foundation process in a custom home being built on clients lot in St. Hedwig. Slab on grade, rebar concrete foundation.

This particular build on your lot custom home poured concrete at 3:30AM so pictures of concrete pour for the slab are limited as it was dark.

The time lapse was captured in photos below to help paint a picture of the process from start to finish. Starts with site placement consultation, building envelope cleared followed by form boards then plumbing rough in before the ‘meat and potatoes’ process of the foundation starts and of course ends with the concrete being poured accordingly...don’t forget anchor bolts! Framing starts shortly after.

How long does it take to build custom home on your lot?

This is a question get asked pretty often...

“How long does it take to build a custom home on my lot?”

It’s not as easy to answer as it can vary on a number of factors but a rough rule of thumb you can use is 3 months for every 1,000 SQFT of living area once break ground. Keep in mind the planning process before hand is on a separate time table depending on where you currently are in the process. We have people reaching out to us about building a custom home on their land with questions all across the board from having plans already to just narrowing down a lot so keep this in mind as well, the plan process needs to be accounted for.

The actual custom home build time frame can vary when building on your lot depending on items such as excavation / clearing needed, level of finish outs, specialty items ordered, custom features, weather, material demand, selections, change orders, etc.

Just keep in mind when asking “how long it will take to build your custom home” speed is not always the goal...a quality custom home on your lot takes time and special attention.
